Bali Hai Brewery proudly celebrated its continued role as the official beer partner of the Mandiri Indonesia Open 2024, a partnership that has been in place since 2011. This year’s tournament, hosted at Damai Indah Golf – PIK Course from 29 August until 1 September, culminated in a thrilling finish as English golfer Steve Lewton secured a dramatic playoff victory to claim his second Asian Tour title.
The final round saw Lewton in a tight battle with Australia’s Aaron Wilkin and China’s Sampson Zheng. Heading into the last hole with a two-stroke lead after birdies on the 16th and 17th, Lewton appeared ready for an easy win. However, a double bogey on the 18th brought the contest to a playoff. In the sudden-death showdown, Lewton’s composure helped him secure par on the second playoff hole, while both Wilkin and Zheng struggled with bogeys, giving Lewton the victory.
Following his emotional win, Lewton reflected, “This is a truly special moment for me. I didn’t expect to be the champion, not the runner up anymore.” His consistency across all four rounds, with scores of 67, 67, 66, and 68, helped cement his place among the tournament’s champions.
Indonesian golfer Gabriel Hansel Heri also stood out. Hansel’s second consecutive recognition as the tournament’s lowest amateur highlighted his rapid progress as a rising star in Indonesian golf. He is set to represent Jakarta at the National Sports Week (PON) in Medan and has plans to turn professional in the near future.
Adding to the excitement this year, Bali Hai Brewery introduced a new beer truck to enhance the event experience. Bali Hai Brewery’s partnership with the Mandiri Indonesia Open has played a significant role in enhancing the experience for players and spectators alike, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of this prestigious golf event. The brewery’s involvement reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting both the sport and the community, contributing to the tournament’s success and growth on the international stage.
